The "not worth a thread™" thread

Postby Apple on Fri May 12, 2006 8:06 pm

The basic idea of this thread is to talk about things that you might have done recently, or which you’ve seen on ‘the net’ but aren’t really worth a thread in their own right. Perhaps you might be feeling chipper that you have just got your BSc (Bronze Swimming Certificate) but are rightly concerned that you’ll look like a boastful prat if you start a whole thread about how you ‘pwned the 10 meter freestyle’

It’s kind of like a ‘bar thread’ but less chat orientated, because let’s face it if we wanted to be in a chatroom we would be somewhere better suited to it.

Okay. Here's an example of something not worth a thread.

I went to Highgate cemetery yesterday. It's a lovely Victorian cemetery with some very beautiful graves. There are over 168,000 names buried in more than 52,00 graves across the two wings. The older part is managed in what they call ‘controlled neglect’ basically meaning they don’t do much restoration work, but they prevent damage from things like ivy or sycamore encroachment.

The whole place has a pleasant ‘Bryonesk melancholy’ to the atmosphere. If you are ever at a loose end in the area it’s worth going.

I went to the Pere Lachaise cemetry in Paris to visit Jim Morrisons grave a few years ago. There are some absolutely stunning sculptures and monuments there. Shame lots of the graves have 'Jim this way -->' scratched on them!! Incidentally, Oscar Wilde and Chopin are also buried there (he said, frantically googling for facts!!)

I completed the Ten Tors 35 mile event in dartmoor, walking almost 40 miles and visiting 13 tors on the way :)

It was the hardest thing I have ever done.

Adverts? God no. I've got Sky plus.... I don't watch adverts.

As a result, I've lost all my tolerance to them, and whenever I go round someone else's house and they have the TV on I find I really do find the urge to buy new types of fabric conditioner or whatever overwhelming.

Well... I am, but a nice one. Think a contemporary Mortica Adams rather then the 3 months dead in the ground look the teens go for these days.

However, I don't use washing powder... I use little wash balls that you re-use up to 100 times. You can get them from Kleen-Eaze or Lakeland Ltd and they really work. The only downside is I can no-longer wear anything that has been washed with chemical powders and they make my skin itchy.

That was a little adverty.... but true.
