I've read comments about this very topic many times before, even in the letters page of the latest 360 issue; games nowadays are too short for your money etc. And I write here with a suggestion;
I have a friend, Mr Nameless, who complains about the shortness of the games he plays and recently I discovered that he was playing all of them on 'easy'. If games are flying by too fast for you then bump up the difficulty! I never play my games on anything less than the hardest difficulty, especially after achievements were introduced as a small form of reward.. and whilst most of the longetivity comes from constantly repeating sections until I get through it, I feel I well and truly get my moneys worth once it's all done with.
Think Halo Reach is over too fast? Bang it on Legendary.
Finished Dead Space 2 within 5 hours? See how you do on Hardcore mode.
Homefront too short for you? Well, it is... but bang it on a harder difficulty anyway.
What I'm saying is that you can control the level of challenge you recieve and a greater challenge takes longer time. For some people they may just want to play through a narrative and move on, fair enough... but you can't complain about longetivity in that case.
What difficulty do others play their games on? Do you think that's a fair way to increase longetivity of a game or do you disagree with me?
