2011 New Year Predictions thread

Postby Bob on Mon Jan 03, 2011 5:50 pm

Ok People.

We starting the new year.

What do we thinks going to happen in 2011?

What's going to sell?

What review scores are going to be on the doors?

What gamers are going to be announced?

Looking at what's lined up for the following year such as Deus EX 3, Bulletstorm, Crisis 2, Dead Space 2, Elder Srolls (though this doesn't really interest myself because I'm not a fan of the fantasy setting but that's just personal preference), LA Noir etc I'm quite optimistic.

2010 seemed to be a year which held back on niche games in favor of hand-holding blockbusters whereas the 2011 lineup looks like it could be a bit better for innovation rather than cash ins.

Whether this actually happens is yet to be seen though...

I really, really, really hope that Bulletstorm and Brink are gonna be quality. There both trying something a bit different in the FPS world. There is always one or two titles in the year that do well and take everyone by surprise, kinda like what Bayonetta did last year.

There is potentially a lot of quality gaming to be had this year with the likes of Mass Effect 3, Gears of War 3, Batman:Arkham City, Marvel vs Capcom, Edler Scrolls just a few of the big franchises hitting this year. For me this games have to score big, otherwise its a disaster. Then you got the games which are bit more 'underground' such as Deus Ex, Crysis 2, Dead Space 2 and the two mentioned above. Can they hold there own against the big boys? I'm not too sure, some of the gameplay trailers I have seen recently have looked quite ropey for Deus Ex and Crysis 2.

And once again we've got two windows with congested releases. One in March/April and then again in November/December. Sort it out Publishers, not everyone has loads of disposable income to splurge on games thru the year, let alone within a few weeks.

And there there is Kinect. Bless. Gears of War 3 is apparently having this integrated, but what other games? I'm not sure we will see many this year, I've heard some devs are finding it difficult to work with. It really needs to have game like Ruse or Halo Wars, it is suited perfectly for RTS games. Not that it effects me mind, I don't have a big enough lounge and I like my sofa too much.

I comfortably predict that Gears 3 will sell a boatload...however if it has the rumoured Kinect compatibilty, it will sell 100 boat loads, im talking CoD and Halo numbers.

Im also betting Bulletstorm will be very good but wont sell that well.

ME3 and Elder Scrolls v will be predictably brilliant and probably the GOTY.

Oh and in general gamers without XBl will continue to be sidelined by major gaming companies. For example EA will likely make their next shooter with a 5 minute SP campaign and a mode that sneers at you if your not connected to XBL when you load the disc.

1. Bulletstorm will be fun for ten minutes but quickly look cheap, crappy and repetetive. Anyone who says as much "just doesn't understand it"

2. Brink will disappear, whether good or not.

3. Call of Duty Seven will be comprised entirely of a film with 4 quick time events.

4. LA Noire will be ruined, ruined, by the GTA shooty bits, which will overpower and pummell into nothingness the exciting things they are trying to do with the voice acting, facial recognition and detective gameplay. Well, that and that you can still "win" each level even if you find nothing in the detective parts because "the game will solve the mystery for you".

5. Elder Scrolls 5 will be techincally poor, glitched to hell and back and be voice-acted by six people. It will also be the greatest game ever released.

6. A new game will be announced called "Like God of War"

7. Duke Nukem will be drivel.

8. DiRT 3 will be the best racing game in forever.

9. Valve will announce Left 4 Dead 3. There will be rioting in the streets of Steam. Half Life 2 part 3, or even Half Life 3, will never be mentioned.

10. Kinect will go the way of Betamax.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

True.

False. It will be the second best game ever released.

Well it will be getting my money that's for sure.

Crysis 2, Could be a big hitter in 2011, I can see it going the way of Bad Company 2, In that buy way of mouth,The game could be the online multi-player game everyone is playing, Until Gears 3 anyway.

Another prediction:

Duke Nukem Forever won't be released in the crowded winter months, and will either be released in July/August or as early as February. I will also play DNF until my fingers and eyes bleed and refuse to hear a bad word said about it.

I'm thinking that it will be Brink that does that. From what I've seen of Crysis 2 in MP it doesn't bring anything that new to the playing field. It still on my radar tho. :)

Crysis 2 will have mediocre console sales and sink without trace IMO.

I'll predict that a game that hasn't even been mentioned yet will sneak under the radar and blow people away. But it'll get released alongside some big budget I.P. and nobody will buy it.

Gears of War 3 will become too much like COD with weekly challenges, titles, faceplates and gun upgrades and will incur my hatred.
