Diaspora-The BSG unofficial game

Postby Jonesy201 on Sun Dec 26, 2010 8:45 pm

I wasn't sure where to put this since its not a 360 title but i know there is a few geeks (i mean that in a good way) on here, i thought someone may be interested in the fan made version of BSG (unoffical license).
Its going to be a freeware PC release and its being developed on the old Conflict:Freespace engine (which should run fine on most machines today). It's basically a space combat simulator.
I've been following the development for a while from when it was under the guise of 'Beyond the red line'. But due to artistic differences the team split and the name changed to Diaspora.
Anyway, if anyone wants to see what they are doing with the I.P. you could do worse than look here http://www.diasporagame.com
There are rolling trailers and demo's available to check out.

Oh and i did mention it will be free, right?
I have two friends called William Hill...what are the odds?
My dad used to hit me with a camera...i still have flashbacks.

Holy bid jesus can't believe I missed this thread for two months but sweet mother of mercy that actually looks brilliant! :D

After I finished watching the whole series over Christmas (Can't believe it took me that long to get round to BSG too) and I loved it, though when it finished I've yet to find anything to fill the void it left in my viewing. So a game like this would be sweet and I wondered why nobody was doing one...at least this looks excellent.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

I liked the end of the series, most didn't. I do think they should have ended a series earlier though, it got a bit padded in the last two years.

Oh, and, replacements:

- Breaking Bad
- Sons of Anarchy
- Dexter

Assuming you have watched the Wire and Generation Kill already.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

Not watched Generation Kill, working my way through The Wire now. And Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy are indeed excellent stuff. But there's just nothing with quite the scope of BSG and it was good sci-fi, something tv lacks even more so it might be a while before something truly fills that gap.

And I enjoyed certain aspects of the ending...others not so much. Leaving the mystery of Kara Thrace hanging was a bit nippy, and saying she was a ghost seems a bit cheap given the intriguing oddities of her re-appearance like the fact her Viper was brand new etc. Still, Adama's ending I found quite poignant along with Baltar's final moments which I really found remarkably powerful. Solid ending over all, simply just could have been better.

Kara's ending made me rage. She was the best character in the series and her relationship with Apollo left so much be desired.

I've recently watched generation kill, was very, very good.

I'm currently watching Season 8 of NCIS, season 7 of House and season 3 of both the mentalist and Lie to me.

I've got series 7 and 8 of 24 to go yet too.

The lady and I are rewatching BSG as I type - coming to the finale of Season 3. Two words: love it.

Getting back to Diaspora, I had a glance at their forum. One thread is a call for voice talent where one entry asks for the correct pronunciation of DRAEDIS.

So much for "made by geeks for geeks" - watch the frakking show you memeless pleb.
