Can Uncharted 2 help make 2009 the year the PS3 beats the 360?

Far be it for me to highlight the elephant in the room, but as the Internet goes totally mental over PS3 exclusive Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, it seems the limelight usually reserved for the 360 has been cannily shifted. That’s not to say that the 360 hasn’t got some great games on their way this fall, but you have to admit, the focus on the PSPGO!, PS3 Slim and Uncharted 2 is a triple whammy the likes of Halo 3: ODST simply can’t compete with.

The utter brilliance, clear polish and cinematic flair that exudes out of every pore of Nathan Drake’s latest adventure is something very few 360 exclusives can compete with, at least ones which are being released in the run up to Christmas. Sony finally has an exclusive title 360 owners can look over at with jealous eyes. What console succeeds this holiday is still very much in the air, the wider audience that Nintendo has secured, and Sony and Microsoft desperately need, may not be that aware of Uncharted.

They are aware of Halo, Fifa and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and they’re generally the games that count.

That’s not to say as gamers who simply enjoy games, we don’t fancy delving into Nathan Drakes’ latest, because we can’t wait. But it’s about a sequel away from achieving the sort of success and market penetration (hehe) Bungie enjoy on a game-by-game basis (how depressing for Naughty Dog is that!).

Will Uncharted Save Sony?

What’s the general opinion of Uncharted 2? Is it the sort of game you’d buy a PS3 for? Should Microsoft be worried?

I’ve had both consoles for 2 years now and I think the PS3 has been better for along time now with games like Uncharted Drake’s Fortune, Little Big Planet and Warhawk. OK they had technical problems at the start before developers got to grips with Blu-ray tech but now that the main Halo Trilogy is over and the news that Gears of War 3 might not come out this generation, it’s getting easier and easier to prefer the PS3 over 360.

Maybe, I still think the PSN sucks when compared to Live and if all i want to do is shoot people in Modern Warfare 2, then the 360 still holds the trump card.

      Agree with Lynch on that.

Uncharted 2 is phenomenal, though. I’ve been playing the beta until stupid o’clock most nights this week, it is ridiculously good. Can’t wait for the single player.

I think that now, the PS3 warrants a purchase. It finally has a strong lineup of exclusives especially with God of War, Gran Turismo et al on the horizon. That said, I shall continue buying multi-platform games for 360; like Lynch says, the PSN doesn’t really cut it.
