Weekend Thoughts: Bayonetta And Modern Warfare 2

As is my wont, many hours were spent over the weekend getting up to speed on the areas that are inevitably neglected during busy periods such as, well, the end of last year. A few thoughts follow. First up, Modern Warfare until the credits rolled. For some reason, the office was up in arms as its final two missions were declared more anti-climactic that a gun that shoots out flags with the word ‘bang’ on them. It was interesting to note the context in which the airport controversy is contained, specifically what occurs at the end of that particular mission (spoilers safely avoided). Plenty of explosive set-pieces, lots of reason to run around terrified of bullets piercing your soft frame at all times. Overall quite spectacular stuff.

As for Bayonetta, well, it so far sees to exist in a world devoid of story – not that there’s nothing to contemplate, more that when the credits roll, its seems as if its entire narrative will be explained in a single paragraph. The reason this genre remains Samuel’s area is largely its tendency to exclude newcomers. Here there really are no such problems, the satisfying combo-based action being introduced at a steady pace, capable of being absorbed the most simples loving, meercat comparing automaton. More to follow no doubt as time goes on, just a weekend in snapshot for you there…
