Seven Xbox 360 retro de-makes
Seven XBox games that have been “de-made” in 2D for older generation hardware.
Halo 2600, a de-make* of an XBox classic lovingly recreated as in 8-bit Atari graphics, has been released online by former vice president of XBox game publishing, Ed Fries. It’s not the only modern classic we’ve seen that’s been relieved from the shackles of the three-dimensions and high-resolution textures that bind today’s games. So here’s a few more:
Name: Corner’s Shiny
Remake Of: Mirror’s Edge
Remake Format: NES
Mirror’s Edge makes a natural transition to a two-dimensional platform game, this one replicates most of the original features for the NES.
Name: Large-Scale Vehicular Stealing
Remake Of: Grand Theft Auto
Remake Format: NES
The laughably tongue-in-cheek title should inspire you to take a peek at this GTA demake, recreated as a NES beat-em-up.
Name: Sexy Seaside Beachball
Remake Of: Dead Or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball
Remake Format: Spectrum
Includes real breast physics, recreated in beautiful 8-bit graphics! The crazy thing is, this game would have been considered titillating 25 years ago.
Name: Gang Garrison II
Remake Of: Team Fortress II
Remake Format: 8-Bit
A multiplayer shooter as a two-dimensional shooter? Now that’s a thought. Gang Garrison II includes nine different classed and capture the flag mode.
Name: Arcadia
Remake Of: Bioshock 2
Remake Format: Doom 2 Engine
One way to do justice to a legend in its own time is to render it in another classic game engine. So here’s Arcadia, which is Bioshock 2 using the Doom 2 engine.
Name: Left 4 Dead NES
Remake Of: Left 4 Dead
Remake Format: NES
The ever popular NES conversion takes yet another team-based shooter down a peg to the classic 2D era, this time as a top-down shooter.
Name: Halo 2600
Remake Of: Halo
Remake Format: Atari 2600
Created for the Atari 2600, this shooter de-make uses an incredibly minute four kilobytes of space. Seriously – Halo: Reach – why even bother?
*A re-make of a game using older-generation hardware, in case you hadn’t figured that out already
