Next-gen Call Of Duty Already In Development?
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is still riding high, but is a next-gen COD already in the works at Infinity Ward?
After aiding development on Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as Infinity Ward recovered from the departure of Jason West and Vincent Zampella, it seems Sledgehammer Games may be back on board for a sequel.
Looking at Activision’s tandem development cycle between Infinity Ward and Treyarch (with Sledgehammer Games helping out the former), a job posting on the new studio’s website intimates that a new COD is in the works.
Which, obviously, is nothing to write home about. We were never in any doubt that a Call Of Duty, to be released after Treyarch’s next entry, would already be in the works, but it’s interesting to see that Sledgehammer Games is potentially back.
Call Of Duty 2013 will be taking advantage of the two-year development cycle and though we could easily equate Sledgehammer’s involvement as a sign of Infinity Ward’s ongoing issues, what’s more likely is that Activision will be pushing as much development horsepower behind it as it can.
Sledgehammer proved it could easily slip into the development needs of Call Of Duty, too. No one could argue the game suffered because of Infinity Ward’s troubles.
With that in mind, what we could be looking at with Sledgehammer’s job posting is the first unofficial recruitment for a next-gen game. 2013 is a perfect launch window for a new console and a next-gen COD would offer the perfect accompanying title.
We can only hope.

Next Gen XBOX…am coming soon. Be afraid.
dan howdle-you do.
I don’t know if MW3 suffered because those two idiots left! I reckon the game would have been the same, maybe even worse! MW2 wasn’t anything special, so I don’t see why MW3 would have been much better. I actually think Black Ops is the BEST COD game ever, in terms of story and game play. Obviously, MW has the best multiplayer but Black Ops def is the best game!
Those two wankers that left IW think they are bigger than they actually are, those idiots think they are like Sam and Dan Houser – what a bunch of cocks! Lets wait for their next game – oh wait, its gonna be crap and just a re-hash of MW cuz thats all those fools know!
@John Smith
Have you played COD4?! That is the best COD game ever! Black Ops is good, but noting can beat COD4.
They are doomed!! I’m sure 5yr old engines will not work on Next Gen… No more cut-and-paste for those guys. Imagine the glitches and crashes if they are ‘forced’ to use a NEW engine!!?? Glad I’m not part of the COD-disease!!!
