From Wingman to Guardian

I have no shame about it: for the last month or so I’ve been addicted to Gears Of War 2′s Wingman multiplayer mode. The simple, yet compelling, idea of having five teams of two battle it out had me hooked to a worrying degree. It wasn’t so unheard of for me to waste/use entire days playing it.

This weekend just gone, though, I decided enough was enough. No more would I curse falling to my knees after being swarmed from all sides and Epic’s shooter would go back in its case and remain there for sometime. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that way. Instead, I started playing Guardian… and I am hooked once more. The shift from only having one person to rely on to four has shaked the core foundations far more than I would’ve ever predicted with the real kicker coming from the fact, on occasion, I’m actually pretty good. The last thing I did before hitting the hay last night was finish top of my team’s leaderboard with a not too shabby 19 kills and 22 downs. To say I’m chomping at the bit to get home and start playing again is a huge understatement.

To summarise, Gears Of War may just have the finest online offering I’ve ever experienced. And to think it was once so broken! Good work, Epic…
