With this in mind, here’s five titles that have made X360 run behind the nearest sofa and hide.

Dead Space

Some titles disturb with an atmospheric soundtrack, some with impressive visuals. Dead Space, on an alternative hand, offers the whole package. While its quite gratuitous level of violence can shock for a short while, it’s the sheer other worldliness of the Ishimura that stands out. Most notably, those floor-bound aliens that basically look like play dough. Brr…

Limbo

Money isn’t the route of all evil – spiders are. Therefore it’s simple logic to conclude that Limbo is the most menacing game this generation. Hanged children, animal dismemberment, and a haze around the screen’s edge that masks any foresight of the level ahead. Terrifying, but somehow in a deeper, longer lasting way.

Doom III

Sure, it’s about as transparent as your average window, but there’s no denying massively overpowering hideous beasts from hell have the capacity to leave one slightly ill at ease. Besides, the prospect of monsters to come will leave players constantly tense without too much trouble. So much so, the headache of anticipation took care of us, before anything else.

Silent Hill

Considering we were quite scared of the three-dimensional dinosaur included on a PlayStation demo disk, it’s little wonder that it took us well over a year to progress past that infamous back alley…
